Rich Wilde and the Wandering City is the latest title in the massively popular series of online slots from Play’n GO. Like all good series installments, it retains many of the things that players loved about the previous Rich Wilde games, but it also brings something a bit different to the table. In this case, a few of those new aspects include more ways to win with every spin, a whole new adventure, and – for the star of the show – a rather windswept look and more than a few grey hairs.
The Adventurer Who Can’t Get Enough
Rich Wilde has been embarking on adventures in pursuit of ancient artifacts and lost treasures for quite some time. He made his first appearance in the Book of Dead slot
in 2016, and over the last five years, he’s also gone after Aztec Idols, Pearls of India, the Tome of Madness, the Amulet of Dead, and the Shield of Athena. It’s all been thrilling, but it has also taken its toll because now Rich Wilde has grey hair and a beard to match. Fortunately, he hasn’t opted for retirement by any means. Instead, he’s now gone off to the Wandering City in search of even more adventure.
This is a five-reel slot that gives you 243 ways to win with every spin. The reels, which are flanked on either side by giants, are partially transparent, which gives you a good view of a temple background. It’s a good-looking environment with some nice animated touches, and while this is clearly a Rich Wilde slot, it looks and feels different enough to be genuinely fresh and exciting.
Lower-value symbols in this game are stylized representations of the playing card ranks of 9 to A, while higher-value symbols include a dagger, a golden idol, a death mask, Rich Wilde himself, and a large diamond which serves as a wild scatter. The symbols are very nicely animated whenever you land a winning combination, and we’re happy to go on record as saying that Rich Wilde and the Wandering City is the best-looking slot in the series thus far.
Random Multiplier Feature
Look at the top of the middle three reels, and you’ll see three x2 slabs. Any of these can be randomly triggered on any spin, which will obviously improve the value of any win that occurs on that spin. It is perfectly possible for two or all three multiplier slabs to be activated on the same spin, and when that happens, their values will be added together before being applied. Two active slabs will therefore increase wins by x4, while three active slabs will increase them by x6.
Free Spins Feature
The main feature in this slot is a Free Spins feature. This is triggered by getting three or more diamonds on the reels at the same time. You’ll be awarded ten free spins, but before they begin, one symbol will be randomly selected to act as a special Expanding Symbol throughout. Whenever that Expanding Symbol lands on the reels during the Free Spins feature, it will always expand to fill its reel whenever doing so will give you a win of some kind.
Should you manage to land another three wild scatter symbols on the reels during this Free Spins feature, you’ll get another ten free spins. You can do this multiple times, if your luck allows, which should prove useful as you play for a top prize of up to 10,000 times your stake.
Rich Wilde and the Wandering City: Our Verdict
Rich Wilde and the Wandering City is a great game that will appeal both to longstanding fans of the rugged adventurer and also to those who are brand new to the series. Having 243 ways to win feels quite different from the 10 pay lines of previous installments, but it’s that kind of difference, along with the superb visuals and impressive soundtrack, that makes this latest adventure feel fresh and new. We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this slot become a big favourite, and we’re pretty confident that there will be even more Rich Wilde adventures to come in the months and years ahead.
